Luz Gamarra earned her Master's and Ph.D. in Law and Political Science in Peru, where she worked as a prosecutor for over seven years before moving to the United States. Luz pursued a second Master’s degree in Social Work, focusing on International Social Work, at the University of Utah, and soon after began her journey at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC). She is the founder and pioneer of SLCC Amigos Mentores and ESL Legacy Mentors, multigenerational peer mentoring programs designed to support and empower students by fostering connections between individuals of different ages and backgrounds to "learn, grow, and share."
She serves on the Board of Directors for Generations of Latinos in Higher Education, HOPE Everywhere, and Columbus Adult Education. Recognitions and awards for her dedication to serving underrepresented populations and her local community include the SLCC Outstanding Staff Award, the Staff Star Award, the Peruvian Congress Award, the TUMI USA Award, the NASPA Innovation Award in 2015 and 2017, USA Today Woman of the Year in 2022, and Faces of Salt Lake County 2024, to name a few. Luz's commitment to empowering others and transforming lives stands as a testament to her visionary leadership and she brings this passion to Inclusive Minded Counseling and Consulting.
